A self-confessed perfectionist, Nick Aveyard thinks nothing of pulling a kitchen apart and rebuilding it until it meets his strict guidelines. A trade-qualified engineering pattern maker with 17 years experience in joinery and cabinet making, Nick heads up the joinery division of Glen Loddon Homes, which hand crafts all of its kitchens and joinery. The division started three years ago to guarantee the quality of workmanship and design for its joinery and ensure clients have the right kitchen to suit their home and their lifestyle. "From start to finish, we are involved in the building process," says Nick. "We are there at the first measure right through to installation." The process of cutting out the middle man fits perfectly with Glen Loddon Homes’ philosophy of building quality homes that are stylised to their clients’ requirements. And having control of the joinery and its design from the outset ensures Nick has complete ownership of his products and that they are delivered on time. "Nothing goes out the door unless I am 100 per cent happy with it. Not many companies build their kitchens in the factory before they go out, but this is an important part of the process. "If anything is missing or a measurement is out slightly, we can address the problem before the kitchen is installed in the house." Nick’s Dad was a tool maker, hence Nick’s natural progression in to a career working as an engineering patternmaker, but he had always been interested in woodwork so it was an easy transition into cabinet making and joinery. "When an opportunity came up in a small joinery business I jumped at the chance." This experience helped Nick to perfect his skills and now he heads a team of experienced and dedicated joiners. "We are really proud of our kitchens and really enjoy the fact that not one of our kitchens is the same. "A lot of joiners won’t change anything," says Nick, but his team are prepared to change everything. "It is all part of the job so we can give our clients the best product possible."
